Please be aware:

  • Reactions such as redness, edema, pain, and itching may follow treatment, as may an acne-like eruption. All these reactions are linked to the procedure itself and usually resolve after a few days. Should symptoms persist please contact us.
  • Lumps and abscesses; sometimes associated with redness and/or swelling have been reported after treatment in some patients. In most cases, these side effects disappeared, however in some cases, they have lasted up to two weeks.
  • If you have had herpes simplex (cold sores) in the past note that there is always a risk that injecting any product around the lip/or previously affected area may cause herpes to flare up again.

Dermal Fillers Pre & Post Treatment Advice

  • For the best results, and to minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to  your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or Aleve. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John’s Wort and omega-3 capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping use of aspirin. 
  • Please inform us if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. 
  • Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A) retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any “anti-aging” products for two days before and after treatment.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your treatment to avoid extra bruising.
  • Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of it’s ingredients, or suffer from any neurological disorders.

Frequently Asked Questions

That’s no problem at all. Dr Natalia will take her time with you. She will go through the treatment and do her absolute best to reassure you. If at any point you decide not to have treatment that is also no problem.

Before your treatment, a cool gel pack can be held to the skin to numb the area. Numbing cream is available also but is rarely used as the injections are so quick to take effect. These don’t hurt, it’s just like a little pinch. Some patients who bruise easily may find that they may have a slight small bruise e.g. near the sensitive eye area, post-treatment.

Arnica cream is a fantastic healer for bruises and speeds up the recovery time for any bruising. Taking Arnica pillules before and after your treatment can also speed up the recovery time for bruising. These can be found in homeopathy and health food stores.

Some people may have a fear of needles but still would like treatment. If you make us aware of this we can be mindful and look after you.

Dermal fillers are very different to anti-wrinkle treatment. Dermal fillers, such as Restylane are most frequently used to ‘fill’ facial lines, wrinkles and folds (known as static wrinkles) or add volume deep into the skin to enhance facial contours (e.g cheeks) and features such as the lips.

Anti-wrinkle treatments work differently by temporarily relaxing muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles occur as a result of facial movement rather than loss of volume in the skin and this type of injections has gained wide acceptance as a method of treating this type of wrinkle.

The use of Anti-Wrinkle Injections has expanded over the years with wide acceptance among aesthetic healthcare practitioners to use it to treat other areas of the face, although not formally licensed.

Absolutely! Dr Natalia may combine a variety of non-surgical cosmetic procedures over the course of a treatment plan to help you achieve the youthful look you would like to achieve. This gradual process will result in a more subtle change to your appearance and progressively gives you a younger, fresher appearance. Also, a combination of both Anti-Wrinkle Injections and dermal fillers such as Restylane or Belotero to treat very deep frown lines, where the line has been etched into the skin over the years, has been proven to be more effective in achieving that smooth glabellar area between the eyebrows compared to exclusively treating with the Anti-Wrinkle component.
